Hello flower friends!
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and Petals Flower Co.! My name is Amber Swidersky and I run this little flower farm and florist studio in Dufferin County as my new full-time (ad)venture! A couple of months ago I left the corporate world to follow my dream of growing and providing locally grown blooms to Shelburne and the surrounding community.
I live on a farm close to Riverview, Melancthon, ON. Mike and I purchased the farm as first generation farmers in 2003. We both attended the University of Guelph in agriculture programs and are proud to call ourselves “Aggies”! Our farm is a hub of activity as we have a number of sheep, cattle in the summer, bees and flowers! Our children, Warren (13) and Grace (10) thoroughly enjoy our farm life. Each of them has invested in their own small flock of sheep. They will spend the summer checking cattle, checking sheep, working in the flower fields with a little time off to enjoy 4H, fishing and camping.
Petals Flower Farm was born two years ago as my passion for flowers could not be quenched! This will be my third year of flower farming, and I am still making lots of mistakes and figuring out so much as I go. We have enjoyed selling our blooms at the Shelburne Farmer’s Market and intend to continue to build the cutflower business. My decision to leave the corporate world was fueled by my desire to learn more about the floral industry as I love to create beautiful things from flowers! Hence, Petals Flower Co. was born. It is important for me to learn about care and handling of flowers so that I can provide my customers with blooms that will last longer than any others they may purchase and source as much locally grown product I can. I have taken a number of workshops over the years to improve my skills but I still have a lot of learning to do! We hope that you will join us at the flower studio this spring and summer to see what is happening out here on the farm.
I believe that spending time with family and friends and making memories now is very important!
